After apple crumble and custard were thrown at a Tower of London display case containing a portion of the Crown Jewels, four people were arrested. Saturday morning, shortly before 10:00 a.m. GMT, the case containing the Imperial State Crown was damaged and police were called. The Tower's Jewel House has been closed to the public while the Metropolitan Police conduct their investigation. According to the police, four individuals have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. The new non-violent civil resistance group Take Back Power claimed responsibility for the incident.
The group claimed that it staged the prank in order to demand that the British government set up a permanent citizen's assembly known as a "House of the People," which would have the authority to "tax extreme wealth and fix Britain." One protester was seen slamming a large foil tray of crumble against the glass that was protecting the Imperial State Crown in footage that the group posted on social media. The front of the case was then poured with a tub of bright yellow custard by another. One of the protesters yelled, "Democracy has crumbled." "Britain is broken," another added. In order to reclaim power, we have arrived at the nation's crown jewels. While a Tower of London employee spoke into her radio, stunned tourists could be seen reacting to the stunt. The group has claimed this as the second demonstration in recent days. Under the 25-foot Christmas tree in the lobby of The Ritz Hotel on Wednesday, three protesters dumped bags of manure on the floor.

The King wore the Imperial State Crown, a well-known symbol of the monarchy, as he left Westminster Abbey on the day of his coronation in 2023. The priceless working crown is only used on formal occasions other than coronations, like the State Opening of Parliament. It is kept in the Jewel House at the Tower of London when not in use for formal events. It was made in 1937 for George VI's coronation, and it weighs more than a kilogram. It has 2,868 diamonds, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, four rubies, and 269 pearls.
