Norway's police have stated that the overnight explosion at the US embassy in Oslo may have been a terrorist act. After the early-morning blast on Sunday, the embassy in the capital of Norway suffered minor damage but no injuries. Frode Larsen, the head of the police joint investigation and intelligence unit, stated to Norway's public broadcaster NRK, "One of the hypotheses is that it is an act of terrorism, but we are not completely locked into it."

An investigation into the incident is currently underway, and Norwegian authorities claim to be in contact with US diplomats. No comments have been made by US diplomats.

"We have to be open to the possibility that there may be other causes behind what has happened," Larsen emphasized to NRK later on Sunday. Norway's police said in a previous statement that "large resources" were sent to the area around the US embassy on Sunday around 01:00 local time (00:00 GMT). The statement continued, "The police are in dialogue with the embassy, and there have been no injuries reported." According to NRK, the explosion occurred at the building's public entrance, according to Michael Dellemyr, who is in charge of the police response. He stated that search warrants had been issued for the area surrounding the embassy in Oslo's Morgedalsvegen district, which is approximately 7 kilometers (four miles) from the center of the city.

He stated that the police had also issued an appeal for anyone who might have witnessed or heard anything concerning the incident. Later, photos that were shared on social media showed broken glass in the snow outside the building's entrance for the consular section, cracks in a glass door, and dark marks on a tiled floor. Norwegian authorities described the incident as "unacceptable", with Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stressing that "the security of diplomatic missions is very important to us".
He added that he had contacted US embassy chargé d'affaires Eric Meyer regarding Sunday's incident.
