Supermoon and lunar overshadowing delight stargazers

A supermoon has illuminated the sky across the world corresponding with an interesting fractional lunar obscuration.

The Moon should have been visible to seem more brilliant and greater on Tuesday night.

Supermoons happen when the Moon is at its nearest highlight Earth in its circle.

An uncommon halfway lunar shroud - when the World's shadow covers part of the Moon - likewise occurred with around 4% of the Moon's circle canvassed in haziness.


Short-term from Tuesday into Wednesday, the fractional lunar shroud was apparent in the UK, Europe, North and South America and the entire of Africa.

In the UK it happened between 01:40 BST and 05:47, arriving at its top at 03:44.

For those in the US, the overshadowing is noticeable between 20:41 EST and 00:47 - or 22:44 at its most extreme.

The current month's full moon - known as the Collect moon - is the second of four "supermoons" this year.

There will be two all out lunar shrouds noticeable from the UK one year from now - on 14 Walk and 7 September.
