Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha, was shot in the head by unknown assailants on motorcycles in the capital's Paltan area today (12 December), according to police and witnesses.

The incident takes place a day after the Election Commission announced the schedule for the 13th national parliamentary election.
According to DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge Inspector Md Faruk, Hadi, an aspiring candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming elections, was rushed to the emergency department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) following the attack and was taken to the operating theater around 3:50 p.m. According to DMCH Director Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman, he was transferred from DMCH to Evercare Hospital later that day for more advanced treatment. Asaduzzaman stated earlier that Hadi was placed on life support because of his critical condition. The assistant professor at the Department of Neurosurgery at DMCH, Dr. Sumon Rana, informed The Business Standard that Hadi's neurosurgical procedure has been completed. "The surgery on the brain is over. He continued, "Now the ENT team and then the orthopedics department are working." He explained that following the brain surgery, ENT surgeons were applying nasal packs, and orthopedic surgeons were applying plaster and dressing to Hadi's leg friction burns. Dr. Rana went on to say that Hadi was being moved to Evercare's intensive care unit for post-operative care. Describing the trajectory and severity of the injury, he said the bullet entered through the region near the ear, breaking dense cranial bones and causing additional secondary fragments to injure the brain before exiting through the opposite side of the head.

Dr. Rana added that Hadi is currently on life support. On Box Culvert Road, the crime scene has been secured in the interim in front of DR Tower. Evidence and CCTV footage were being gathered by agents from the Detective Branch (DB), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI). Witness Rahim Patoyari stated that the attack occurred this afternoon shortly after the Jumma prayers.

At 2:23 p.m., Rahim, the publicity secretary for the Shramik Odhikar Parishad's Dhaka Metropolitan South unit, began livestreaming on Facebook, showing a bloodied Hadi being carried to the hospital by two men on a rickshaw. Rahim was heard saying Hadi was in a critical condition.

We now know that Hadi was shot near the Bijoynagar Panir Tanki area. He has received a headshot. We are trying to learn more details," Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Ramna Division told The Business Standard.
"Osman Hadi was shot at 2:25pm in front of DR Tower on Box Culvert Road," Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the DMP Media and Public Relations Division, told The Business Standard. At first, we were told that three men on a motorcycle shot him and then fled the scene. He added, "Osman Hadi has been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.  We are investigating the matter."
The head of the Shahbagh Police Station, Md. Moniruzzaman, also stated that they had heard about the incident, but he was unable to specify the location at the time.

However, he went on to say that they have sent police officers to DMCH. Further details regarding the severity of his injury and the circumstances of the shooting were immediately unavailable.
In August 2024, following the removal of the Awami League government, the platform known as Inqilab Mancha was established. The July-August mass uprising served as the platform's inspiration. Hadi was going to run for office in Dhaka-8, which includes the cities of Motijheel, Shahbagh, Ramna, Paltan, and Shahjahanpur.
